When Pete was nominated for Secretary of Defense, my texts blew up with people eager to tell me how great it was. And then, as the muckraking came along, a whole different group— much smaller, but well meaning— texted with questions. I really don’t have a direct line to Pete at times like this, so I could only respond with my experience. “I believe he’s genuinely repented of the marital infidelity” I would say, “And I don’t believe the other accusations. But I do know this: He went out of his way to treat me well, especially when he didn’t have to. Along the way, I saw him do the same for many others.”
I know Pete pretty well as a friend. We worked on three big projects together— two documentaries and a book. We traveled together and he continues to work on behalf of classical Christian education by helping with school fundraisers and other work. I wanted to say more to those who asked, but it needed to come from Pete. This interview with Megyn Kelly answers all of the questions, and it reveals the man that I know.
I’m posting this in the hope that the many people who were helped by “Battle for the American Mind” and the “Miseducation of America” on FOX Nation will have a chance to get to know Pete through this interview. I believe he’s a good man. I believe God will use him.
